Have you ever found yourself feeling lazy? unmotivated? Kicking yourself for the aforementioned reasons? Well cut that shit out and do something!
Here is a list of things to, and not to do when you feel like you're in a slump.
- Go for a walk. If you've been inside all day maybe some sunlight would do you some good. Walks have been known to clear the heads of even the biggest over thinkers so get outside and take a lap.
- Set a small goal and accomplish it. It could be something as simple as doing the dishes that have been piling up in your sink or making your first blog post in a while. Nothing feels better when you're in a slump than getting something done.
- Write down your thoughts. Sometimes when you're in a slump, writing down your thoughts can be really helpful. It clears your mind of what's holding you back, and if you publish it on your blog then maybe you can inspire someone else.
- Go to the gym. I know it can be difficult to get off your keister when you're in a slump, but the mind and body both love physical exercise, which will, in turn, motivate you to do other things.
- Lay on the couch watching Netflix. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with watching Netflix, but staring at a screen isn't going to help you reach your goals. Unless your goals are to sit around watching Netflix all day.
- Get drunk. There is nothing wrong with going out for a drink with your friends, or drinking a beer when you get home from work, but drinking when you're feeling down is one of the worst things you can do. Alcohol is a downer, it's not a stimulant. If you need to be stimulated then drink a cup of coffee or smoke some sativa.
- Sit around comparing yourself to people on Instagram. Look, Instagram is great. I use it a lot to see what other artists are doing or to promote the work of Limit It Editions. However, comparing yourself to people who have way more followers than you isn't going to help you get more of a following for your own work. Instead, try picking up a pencil and sketching or just doing something you enjoy that isn't related to your slump.
I hope this advice is helpful. As you can guess, I've been in a small slump over here at Limit It Editions and reflecting on the cycles that keep me in the slump is the best way to break out of it.

Now that I've accomplished a small goal and taken the time to write down my thoughts, I'm going to get up, move around, stop watching netflix and checking my instagram, and go do something productive.
